Caroline is still intubated... Her team of doctors did not like the placement of her breathing tube this morning and decided they would move it and reevaluate her this afternoon. Her chest x-ray looked "beautiful" but they noticed an elevated white blood cell count. So once again, they are checking Caroline for infection with a blood culture and mucus culture. We are back to the waiting game... cultures take 48 hours to grow. Her doctor told me that they want to make sure she does not have an infection before extubatig her because they want her to succeed with CPAP. They will start IV antibiotics tonight just in case.
On a side note, Dr. Torres, her Argentinian doctor, is done with her rotation on Thursday. Caroline will miss speaking to her in Spanish.
Sorry about the delay and possible infection. And really sad to hear that Caroline won't be bilingual by her original due date! :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope all the cultures come back alright! She is really getting big and I love her little outfits :)
ReplyDeletethe "waiting game" is so hard! an extra prayer this evening for patience and for no infection! my sunday school class has seen her pic, and they are giving her rave reviews! :-) what a little beauty!!!

Hugs for the waiting...but her chest x-ray looked beautiful! That's fabulous. I have several friends who could qualify as Caroline's next Bilingual Auntie.
ReplyDeleteWe've had lots of positives this week so I am betting this will go in the right direction as well. Besides, I love seeing her beautiful head w/out her cap(that holds in the CPAP)Don't worry about the Spanish tutorial...Uncle Drewsie is comin' to see her! Oh... I think pink is her color...love the outfit today!
ReplyDeleteAs ann says, most of the news this week has been positive and the chest xray is a good sign. But this is by it's nature a bumpy road.
ReplyDeleteSounds to me like they are just being conservative.
Let's hope the tube comes out soon.
Stay strong.
thoughts and prayers,
Lou
Prayers always
It will be soon! Come visit us, we'll teach her Chinese!
ReplyDeleteShe is absolutely pretty in pink! Aside from the breathing tube, she looks and sounds like she's doing well. Hope you and Ryan are too. Love you guys!

She is getting so big and really filling out! And congrats on the upgrade to the open isolet =)
ReplyDeleteAnd the good news with the cultures is *if* there is something there, by the time the cultures come back, the antibiotics she's already receiving will have her well on her way to knocking it out!
Keep up the good work, Team Cooper.
