Some struggles

Caroline has had to work hard to breath the last 24 hours or so. She had some bradys and needed to be stimulated a few times. Her doctors decided to look into this and took a chest x-ray, blood gas and turned up her CPAP pressure. The chest x-ray came back looking good. The blood gas told them that she had a slightly elevated level of carbon dioxide in her blood, which means she’s having a hard time exhaling. They gave her a caffeine boost and decided to watch her.

She has greatly improved from the increase in the CPAP pressure and caffeine. While watching her during a de-stat or brady she is actually breathing. This leads them to think the problem is due to her Laryngomalacia and not her lungs. If she has to be bagged today or tonight they will probably intubate her. If they have to intubate Caroline, her doctors will likely keep it in for a while so that she can grow. They are very encouraged by her growth and really believe she will outgrow the breathing issues.

Please pray that Caroline continues to grow and that the increase in CPAP pressure and sleeping positions will help her breathe.

  1. Praying for this to resolve soon and without having to be intubated. We knew there would be harder days but they are always difficult when they are here. Knowing what a little fighter she is is encouraging....and i know she'll get thru this soon too. Thanking God for her great growth this week and for the great medical team she has.May God hold you all in the palm of His hand...and may you feel His presence.
