Second Wind

It has been 48 hours since the doctors started the blood and urine cultures and there has been no growth, which means there is no "big" infection.  However, they will continue to give her antibiotics until the doctors round tomorrow morning.  It is possible that she had a small infection that did not show up, or some type of virus.  It could just be an issue with being a premature baby.  We may never know what caused her to stop breathing on Monday.

Caroline had an up and down day with her sleep apnea.  There were a few occasions where the nurse had to stimulate her to get her to take deeper breaths.  She did have some good stretches where she self corrected.

The really good news is that she is doing great with her feedings.  She is eating 22 CC's every three hours.  Her weight is up to 2 pounds, 11 ounces.  Two of the nurses notices that she was taking her food faster.  It usually slowly goes through her feeding tube to her stomach.  Two of her worst apnea's today were right after they gave her food.  They may put her food on a pump so that she gets the food slower.

More good news is that she was more active today.  She was very lethargic yesterday and it was kind of unsettling.  Caroline got her personality back today, meaning she got mad at all of the nurses and wiggled and stretched for no particular reason.  Hopefully, this is a sign that she is on the upswing.  Katie was able to hold her for the first time since she stopped breathing on Monday and everything went well.

She got more pictures today from the volunteer group.  I attached one of them.
