A lot of good things

I am back.  Did you miss me?  You want more from Katie?  That is what Caroline is saying.  She is doing really well with nursing and is excited to see Katie.  However, she gets tired quickly and has to be fed through her feeding tube.  She seems to get better daily.  She is not quite as good with bottle feeding, but she is working on it every day.

Caroline had her last eye test today and it was great.  We were given a pamphlet with information about Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), which develops in some premature babies.  Basically, the blood vessels that supply the retina fully develop right before a full term baby is born.  These blood vessels may develop irregularly after a premature baby is born.  ROP can either heal on its own, be fixed by surgery, or it may be something that the baby has to live with (glasses early in life, lazy eye, etc.).  The doctors said that Caroline's eyes are "mature" and that her blood vessels "...have virtually no risk for developing ROP related complications."  Now I know she can see my goofy smile.

She also passed a hearing test yesterday.  I do not think she has to have her ears tested again.

The doctors did decide to bring back the nasal cannula full time.  However, it is on a very low setting.  About the lowest setting possible.  The main goal is still to grow.  They do not want to exhaust her with breathing.  Her weight is just under 5 pounds, 4 ounces.

The volunteers that take pictures every Wednesday are still coming by to see Caroline.  Here is a picture from today.
