I thought that Caroline hated the CPAP at just a biscuit over 2 pounds. Roughly 10 biscuits later, she is now 4 pounds, 2 ounces, and she hates it even more. However, she is beating CPAP so far. At least for Caroline, the minimum pressure that is applied by CPAP is 5 and the max is 10. When the doctors took out the breathing tube, they set the CPAP to 8. They quickly lowered it to 7 by the end of the day on Saturday. Today, they lowered it to 6. The last time she was on CPAP, she got to 5, but she regressed. I am hopeful that she pushes on through this time and gets rid of CPAP for good.
Caroline's heart rate has been a little high the last couple of days. This is mainly because she gets so agitated with CPAP. She has been sedated a lot the last 48 hours and that keeps her heart rate low. Also, part of the cause of her high heart rate may be because she keeps getting hot. Even though she is still a little small for a normal crib, the doctors mentioned that she may be getting close to an open air bed. The doctors think that she is about to be ready for a little freedom. Before that happens, she will have to continue to prove she can regulate her body temperature. She is doing well so far.
Katie returned to work today. I think it is good for her to get away from the NICU and she can be there in a second if she needs to be. Oh, and she started her fourth decade on Sunday. We always joked that she would be 30 years old by the time Caroline was born. Wrong again.
