Goodbye CPAP, part 2

So now for the big news - Katie called me today and told me that there was a gigantic dead rat in our backyard and that it was definitely a "Dad job."  I am happy to say that I successfully disposed of the rat.  I now have to think of some "Mom jobs" - (cough) diapers.

In other news, Caroline is currently breathing on her own without a breathing tube, CPAP or any other NICU assistance!  This kind of caught me by surprise.  As you could see from earlier today, I was hoping that she would be moved to an open air bed.  I will take this trade.  Katie did not get to the NICU as early as usual today.  When she got there, our primary nurse had a big smile and told her to look at Caroline.  Katie said that she only had a few dips and did very well "flying solo."  We are obviously very excited Caroline's progress.  The doctors are going to watch her breathing.  If she is stable for the next 24 to 48 hours, they will start working on bottle feeding.  So, I am hopeful that she will press on through this time.  If you are wondering why the subject is "Goodbye CPAP, part 2," look back to August 30th - this hurdle took a long time, but I won't complain for a second.

The doctors also said that she would get a bed in a few days if she continues to put on weight while breathing on her own.

Also, I don't think I finished my update about her eyes.  Everything looks good and they are considered to be "mature."  She will have an eye check in 2 weeks.  If it goes well, then she will be good to go on that front.

Moved feeding tube to nose

So happy

The smile on Caroline's face reminds me of her 20 week ultrasound:

Yes, that is a leg to the left of her face
